It is one of the most commonly heard phrases.
“If you want to be a better or successful leader, founder or CEO hire people better than you”
The problem is most of the time we try to hire somebody that is better skilled. I don’t think better means better skilled.
When we hire we hire for:
- Drive/energy first
- Soul/DNA fit second (and no that’s not hiring the same people, it’s hiring people who have a decent overlap in our core values)
- Able to do the job third.
It’s talent, time, engagement, circumstances, skill ea that make somebody better in a certain role at a certain time. So hire for the potential to be better. The pool is bigger and the end result is better.
